Can I do this from my MBP, so as not to have to go upstairs and view the Power Mac on a dedicated screen, etc?) What I'd need to know is what OS to run on it - I know they can't run Snow Leopard OS X Server edition, due to no Intel chips, so would regular 10.5 Leopard do what I need it to do? (Question 2 : Depending on it's OS, how would I go about managing it, remotely, from my MBP? IE, adding new files to it, moving stuff to different folders and adding to the iTunes library running on it, so the additions/changes are reflected in the Home Sharing libraries in my MBP and iPhone. (Question 1 : Can I still sync music, apps and video using iTunes on my MBP if it is using Home Sharing from the iTunes on the Power Mac server?) What I'm wondering is can I use a Power Mac tower to be the server, and while it hosts the music and video files, it can also run a live iTunes librarym so instead of having a library (using remote files) on my MBP, I can use Home Sharing (on both the MBP and iPhone). Video is mostly MKV and AVI, and is streamed to XBMC running on my Apple TV (and to my MBP, played in VLC) Knowing NOTHING about these older Macs, apart from looking cool and running OSX, could one be used as a server?Ĭurrently I have a Buffalo NAS serving music and video - music is streamed to my MacBook's iTunes, which in turn syncs with my iPhone, iPod and Apple TV.
